Tigers and Blackhawks Go Down to the Final Seconds

The MCC women's basketball team hit the hardwood Monday night in the Student Activity Center when they hosted the Blackhawks of Southeastern Community College. The Tigers, coming off three straight losses, were looking to get back to playing better basketball against a tough 9-3 Blackhawk team. In a nail biter, the Blackhawks would come out on top 59-54.

The Tigers came out and took an early lead going up 10 points at the end of the first quarter. After a hot first quarter by the Tigers the Blackhawks would take control in the second as they went 8-15 from the field and took a 31-27 lead into halftime. The Tigers would have an efficient third quarter shooting 53% collectively and shrink the Blackhawk lead to three. The Tigers would only be able to score eight points and shoot 30% from the field in the fourth quarter while the Blackhawks maintained their lead and held off the final efforts by the Tigers to walk away with a 59-54 victory.

Loarlei Siliga would have another impressive outing, going 13-22 from the field for 27 points. Siliga also recorded six rebounds, three assists, and a steal to cap off the night. Maria Cruz Uceda had the best game of the year statistically recording her first double double as she went 6-9 from the field for 13 points while bringing in 12 rebounds. Alyssa Roth would end with 10 points on the night followed by Claudia Morente and Ryan Roberts with two apiece.

The Tigers will be back in action on Wednesday (12/13) when they host the Lakers of Iowa Lakes Community College at 5:30. The Lakers are currently 2-9 on the season while averaging 61 points per game. Two sophomore centers lead the Lakers in scoring with Lemia Ntor-Ue and Mia Wassink averaging 15.1 and 14.1 points per game respectively.
