Tigers Struggle with the Blazers

The MCC women's basketball team traveled to Quincy, Illinois to take on John Wood Community College in the team's first game since the holiday break. The Blazers of John Wood struggled early in the season losing ten straight games. The Blazers have since won four straight games while averaging 68 points per game in that span. The Blazers would extend their streak, as the Tigers would fall 56-38.

The Tiger offense struggled early as they trailed 9-17 following the first quarter and would go into the second half trailing 16-29. Slow starts to the second half have plagued the team all season long and again the Tigers would come out slow and were outscored 8-14 in the third quarter. The fourth quarter saw an even match but the Tigers were unable to overcome the double-digit deficit.

Leading the way for the Tigers was sophomore guard Alyssa Roth who finished with 17 points and six rebounds. Fellow sophomores Loralei Siliga and Maria Cruz-Uceda ended the afternoon with seven points apiece. The Blazers were led in scoring by Chelsea Wood and Autumn Voigt who would finish with 13 and 11 points respectively.

The Tigers will be back in action Wednesday, January 13 when they travel to Ellsworth Community College for their second game with the 5-8 Panthers. The Tigers were able to defeat the Panthers earlier in the season in a thrilling 67-60 overtime battle that saw Loralei Siliga take over with a 31 point performance. The Iowa Valley matchup will start at 5:30 PM in Iowa Falls in the Martin Ellsworth Dittmer Gymnasium.
