Tigers Fall to the Reivers 69-49

The MCC women's basketball team traveled to Council Bluffs, Iowa Saturday night to take on the Reivers of Iowa Western. The 14-4 Reivers suffered early season losses and have since won seven straight games while the Tigers also struggled before the holiday break, but have since beat Ellsworth Community College in their last game. The Tigers would lose their leading scorer, Loralei Siliga, in the game with a concussion, and she would miss Saturday's matchup.

The Tigers played well in Siliga's absence as the team shot 41% from the field but they would fall to the Reivers 69-49. The sophomores would steal the show for the Tigers as Alyssa Roth and Claudia Morente would score 17 and 16 points respectively. Claudia Morente would have an efficient night in her 40 minutes of play, going 6-14 from the field while Roth went 5-13 from the field but hit 7-8 free throws.

The Reivers would see stand out performances by their leading scorer, Naomie Alnatas who scored 19 points in 17 minutes of play, and Azaria Floyd who would end with 15 points while going 7-13 from the field.

"We played a good team tonight but after a solid first half we couldn't get going in the second," stated Head Coach Steve Garber. "While we limited their offense we still didn't play well defensively and we will need to clean that up if we want to compete in this league."

The Tigers will be back in action Wednesday, January 13 when Little Priest Tribal College comes to the Student Activity Center for the teams' second match up of the season. The Tigers defeated the Warriors 67-57 on their November 9 match up. The Warriors currently hold a 5-12 record after losing four straight games. The game will be streamed live with links posted on mccathletics.com as well as on MCC athletics social media pages.
