Women's Basketball Fall to the Hawks of Northeast

The MCC women's basketball team were back on the hardwood Saturday night as they hosted the Hawks of Northeast Community College. The Tigers have seen an increase in production from sophomores Claudia Morente and Alyssa Roth since the holiday break and that production has led to three wins in the last two weeks. The Hawks of Northeast Community College have played well all season, compiling a 17-2 record thus far.

Saturday night the women's basketball team were bested by the Hawks 67-43. The Tigers struggled offensively the entire game, shooting 27% from the field collectively.

"Tonight we struggled getting open and creating space," stated Head Coach Steve Garber. "When we did have opportunities but more often than not we didn't take advantage of it."

Top performers for the Tigers were sophomores Claudia Morente and Alyssa Roth. Morente would play all 40 minutes of the game going 5-15 from the field and 1-4 from the free throw line for 13 points, while Roth was 4-13 from the field, 2-5 from three, and 4-7 from the free throw line for 14 points.

The Tigers will be back in action Wednesday, January 31 when the Reivers of Iowa Western Community College come to the Student Activity Center. The Reivers have played well all season going 18-4 in their first 22 games. The Tigers will look to slow down a high-octane offense that averages 83 points per game. The game is set to tip off at 5:00 and will be streamed live on MCCathletics.com with links posted on the MCC Athletics Facebook and Twitter pages.
