Tigers Get Back on Track

The MCC women's basketball team was back on the hardwood Monday night after their Saturday game was cancelled due to weather. The Tigers hosted the Dutch from Central College. The Tigers have been struggling as of late, dropping their last four games and falling to 8-17 on the season. Monday, the Tigers got back to playing fundamental basketball and came out with a 61-57 victory.

The Tigers were led in scoring by sophomore Loralei Siliga who finished the night with 17 points going 6-15 from the field and 4-6 from the free throw line. Sarah Kavanh had a strong start to the game hitting her first three, three pointers in the first five minutes. Kavanh ended the night shooting 50% from the field for 13 points. Sophomore Alyssa Roth ended the night with eleven points while grabbing four rebounds while also recording five assists. Freshman Maria Cruz Uceda helped the Tigers control the boards by leading the team with eight rebounds.

"I don't think we played our best basketball tonight, but we were able to limit our turnovers and created a few turnovers," stated Head Coach Steve Garber.

The Dutch from Central College had three players in double-digit point totals with Star Smith recording 19 points off the bench. Smith went 4-9 from the three-point arc and a perfect 5-5 from the free throw line to lead the Dutch in scoring.
