Tigers Drop Final ICCAC Game

The Marshalltown Community College women's basketball team traveled to Norfolk, Nebraska Friday night for an ICCAC matchup with the Hawks of Northeast Community College. The Hawks have played very well all season, compiling a 22-4 record while the Tigers stand at 10-18 and hold the third spot in the conference. The Tigers have played well lately, sporting the top two scorers in the conference in sophomores Loralei Siliga and Alyssa Roth.

The sophomores played well but the Tigers fell Friday night 65-57 with Loralei Siliga leading the way with 22 points. The Tigers clawed their way back into the game before half when Claudia Morente and Alyssa Roth each hit back to back threes in the final minute. The Tigers kept it close until the final minutes of the fourth quarter.

Sophomores Claudia Morente had a career night, going 7-17 from the field and 5-8 from the three-point arc for 20 points. Morente also grabbed five rebounds and recorded four assists. Alyssa Roth added 12 points, shooting 50% from the field. Sarah Kavanh recorded the remaining three points, by hitting a deep three in the final minutes, while grabbing a team leading eight rebounds.

The Tigers will be back in action on Wednesday, February 28 when they travel back up to Norfolk for the first round on the Region XI Tournament. Wednesday's game is set to tip off at 6:00 pm with the winner advancing to Council Bluffs, to take on the #1 seed Reivers of Iowa Western. The Region IV champion will then advance to the Distract K Championship against the Region XVI champion.  Wednesday's game will be streamed live, with links posted on mccathletics.com and on MCC Athletics social media pages.
