Tiger Loss Ends Season

The Marshalltown Community College women's basketball team took on the Hawks of Northeast Community College Wednesday night in the first round of the Region XI Division I Women's Basketball Tournament. The two teams were very familiar with each other, playing last Friday in their final regular season game with the Hawks prevailing 65-57.

Wednesday's Regional matchup would be the last for the Tigers, falling to the Hawks 57-39. Trailing by five going into the second quarter the Tigers offense stalled and went into half time down 13. The Tigers could not get the offense working in the second half, scoring just twenty points while giving up twenty-five and falling by eighteen.

Sophomore Loralei Siliga finished her career with a 20-point game while grabbing seven rebounds.  Claudia Morente went 3-11 from the field and 3-4 from the free throw line for 9 points and recorded three assists.

With tonight's loss, the Tigers season comes to an end while the Hawks will move on to Council Bluffs to take on the 24-4 Reivers of Iowa Western Community College. Although the Tigers did not advance this season, MCC sophomores Loralei Siliga and Alyssa Roth finished first and third in the conference in points per game with 17.7 and 13.1 respectively. The pair also led the conference in total points, with Loralei Siliga scoring 513 points and Roth totaling the second most points with 394.
