Claudia Morente Signs with Upper Iowa University

Claudia Morente, a sophomore on the Marshalltown Community College women's basketball team, has signed to continue her career at Upper Iowa University. Morente has been a consistent starter for the Tigers the last two years, starting in all 59 games and averaging over 38 minutes a game. The 5'5 guard has been an efficient facilitator of the court while averaging just under ten points per game.

"Claudia has spent the last two years as our starting point guard," stated Head Women's Basketball Coach Steve Garber. "Her consistency and durability goes beyond words. No other player I have coached has endured more responsibility, day in and day out over these two years being a leader than what Claudia has exhibited. She has done so with maturity and work ethic and will assuredly continue that path at the next level at Upper Iowa."

Micha Thompson took over as the Peacocks Head Women's Basketball Coach in the summer of 2016 and is looking to turn around a program that has struggled in the resent years. A veteran coach with 10 years coaching experience at the NCAA Division I level, Thompson has went 6-50 in her first two years in Fayette and 4-41 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.

"I have had a great time here at MCC and made many friends, it will be sad to say goodbye but I am really excited about attending Upper Iowa next year," stated Morente after her signing. "I want to thank Coach Garber for giving me the opportunity to play basketball here at MCC and for helping me in my recruiting process, I wouldn't have been able to accomplish this without his help."
