The Tiger women tally first W at Dale Howard Classic

Iowa Falls, IA- The Marshalltown Community College Women's Basketball squad split games against NIACC and Ellsworth CC over the weekend, notching their first win of the season. The inaugural Dale Howard Classic hosted by Ellsworth Community College featured both a women's and men's division and was held on November 9th and 10th.

In the opener against NIACC, the relentless Trojan pressure forced the Tigers to make 27 turnovers throughout the game which created a deficit that was too large for the Tigers to overcome. The Tigers fell short 65-111. Freshman Danielle Smith led the Tigers with a season high 22 points. She fell short of a double double by two rebounds, as she led the way on the glass for the Tigers with eight boards. Fellow freshmen Carla Collado and Clara Solsano joined Smith in double figures with 12 a piece.

The Tigers would bounce back the next day as they took on the Panthers of Ellsworth, in the battle of the Valley. The Tigers would narrowly prevail, 53-51 fighting off a strong 19 point fourth quarter by the Panthers. Smith would notch her first double double of the year, with 13 points and 10 rebounds, eight of them on the defensive end.
