Tigers Pummel Panthers

When The Marshalltown Community College Women's Basketball Team took on Ellsworth Community College on Tuesday, November 20, it was the second time the two teams had squared off in just ten day. The Tigers came out on top of the earlier matchup on November 10. And after four quarters of play on November, 20, the Tigers we once again victorious.

The games started slowly for both teams as early shots would not fall. Deadlocked at zeros for nearly half of the first quarter, it appeared that the fans in attendance may be in for a long afternoon. However, once the first bucket fell, both teams found a rhythm. ECC found that rhythm a little earlier than the Tigers and led 12-5 after the first quarter.

The next three quarters were controlled by the Tigers though as their offense put together their most consistent and complete game to date. After managing just 5 points in their first quarter, the Tigers would put up 17, 18, and 18 points respectively in the three quarters to follow and outscored the Panthers in each frame. After the first quarter, the offense found much better scoring opportunities as they shot over 40% from the field in quarters 2-4 whereas they'd shot just 15% in the first quarter.

Dana Stokes, Anna Jaumandreu and Laurin Lyons came up big for the Tigers in different ways. Stokes led all scorers with 21 points and recorded a game-high 4 steals. Jaumandreu scored an efficient 10 points on 5-7 shooting. Lyons controlled the boards for the Tigers and was the leading rebounder in the contest.

The Tigers will look to continue their offensive consistency with contributions from throughout the roster when the return to action on Wednesday, November 28 VS Des Moines Area Community College.
