Tigers Losing Streak Extended to Nine

Tigers WBB played back to back contests on Thursday, January 31 and Friday, February 1. Both games saw the Tigers get out to a good start before being overtaken by the opponent. On Thursday, it was the Blackhawks of Southeastern Community College who outlasted the Tigers. And on Friday, it was Luther JV.

"We've started each of the past two games really well." said WBB Head Coach, Steve Garber. "However, as the games went on, it was obvious that we got tired. And when we get tired our defense suffers. We stop rebounding and we give up too many points in transition."

The second chance points were a glaring weakness for MCC on Thursday night as the Blackhawks outscored the Tigers 12-2 in second chance opportunities as they outrebounded the Tigers by 11. Combine those second chance points for Southeastern with the fact that the Tigers shot just 25% from the floor, and it's no wonder the Blackhawks handed the Tigers their 15th loss of the season despite turning the ball over two more times than the Tigers.

Freshman guard, Laurin Lyons was a bright spot for MCC in both matchups. On Thursday, Lyons led the Tigers in scoring with 13 and rebounds with 10. She repeated the feat of leading the way in both categories on Friday night as she registered 14 points to go along with 9 boards.

Head Coach, Steve Garber said, "Laurin has played well for us lately. She has a good motor and doesn't stop working. She's not a player who's going to light it up from the field, but she rebounds, gets to the free-throw line, and finds a way to make a difference."

The loss on Friday moved the Tigers to 5-16 on the season and extended their losing streak to nine. They will look to get back into the win column on Thursday, February 7 when they travel to William Penn to take on their JV.
