Tigers sweep NIACC 3-0

The MCC Tiger volleyball team put together a full match of efficient hitting to put away visiting NIACC 25-14, 25-11, 25-22. MCC hit .388 on the evening. With the win, the Tigers avenge a five set loss from last week to the Trojans in Mason City.

MCC (7-16, 1-2) took control of the match going up early in set one 8-1. The Tigers never relinquished the lead, using a balanced attack, led by sophomore outside hitter Mady Van Metre(Marshalltown, IA). Van Metre hit 5 of her team high 15 kills in the set, putting the Tigers up 1-0.

The Tigers again jumped out to an early lead in set two. Sophomore Tanya Literski (Athens, WI) served 6 straight serves to give the home team a 7-1 advantage. The Tigers used their strongest hitting efforts of the night going 23 for 24 with 12 kills in the set.

Game three saw the Tigers on the opposite side of an early lead. The Trojans jumped out to a 10-4 lead. NIACC kept their lead until Freshmen Ashley Salgado (Ottumwa, IA) went back to the service line with the set score 19-13. Salgado served seven unanswered points, giving MCC the lead 20-19. The Trojans would battle back to tie the score at 22-22, but 2 strong serves by Sophomore Ashton Baardseth (Marshalltown, IA) and a kill by Van Metre would end the match, giving the Tigers a 3-0 win.

MCC will return to the road on October 10, traveling to Ellsworth Community College. Match time is scheduled for 7 pm.
