Van Metre comes back swinging

Sophomore outside hitter Mady Van Metre (Marshalltown, IA) wasted little time getting back in the swing of things. Van Metre, who has missed the last five matches due to a concussion, hit a match high 19 kills to help the tiger volleyball team (14-20, 3-2) sweep host Waldorf College 3-0.

"We had some other hitters with off nights tonight, so it was nice to have Mady back in the lineup," said head coach Chris Brees.  "We have preformed very well without her, but her presence helps take the pressure off of other players."

It was from behind the service line that the Tigers mounted their strongest attack on the evening. As a team MCC combined for a season high 12 service aces. Three tigers each recorded three aces apiece.

"We went back to the service line and served with an intention tonight," commented Brees. "We hit our zones very well, which kept them out of system the entire night. Anytime you can hit 12 aces with only 2 errors, your team is serving well."

Sophomore setter Tanya Literski (Athens, WI) tallied 36 assists on the evening, while freshmanAshley Salgado (Ottumwa, IA) led all players with 22 digs.

MCC will return to action Friday, Oct. 26, hosting the Iowa Community College Conference Showcase. The Tigers will face NJCAA II, 10th ranked DMACC at 11:00 am., and 9th ranked Iowa Central Community College at 3:00 pm.  All matches will be broadcasted live online at: http://www.ihigh.com/mcc/.
