Volleyball garners awards

The Iowa Community College Athletic Conference has announced its 2012 All-Region and All-Conference teams for volleyball. The honorees were selected by the leagues head coaches. Marshalltown Community College finished the season with a 14-25 overall record, going 3-6 in conference play, qualifying the Tigers for the Region XI-A Tournament.

Sophomore outside hitter Mady Van Metre (Marshalltown, IA) was named to the All-Region XI-A 2nd Team, All-ICCAC Conference 2nd Team and Region XI-A All-Tournament Team. Van Metre finished the season ranked second in the nation for NJCAA Division II players with 4.41 kills per game and eighth in the nation with 507 total kills.

Sophomore setter Tanya Literski (Athens, WI) was named to the All-Region XI-A 2nd Team and ICCAC Conference Honorable Mention Team. Literski finished the season with 1235 assists, placing her eighth in the nation for NJCAA Division II players and fifteenth with 9.36 assists per game.

Freshman libero Ashley Salgado (Ottumwa, IA) received Honorable Mention All-ICCAC recognition. Salgado tallied 796 digs for the season, placing her ninth in the nation for NJCAA Division II players and seventh in the nation with a 6.03 digs per game average.

"It is nice to see our players get individual recognitions for the season," said head coach Chris Brees. "Our record does not reflect how hard these ladies worked, and the dedication they made to Tiger volleyball. We are in a rebuilding process; its players like this that will continue to move MCC to the top of the conference and region standings. I'm proud of them and our entire team."
