Ashley Salgado earns second straight ICCAC accolade

For the second consecutive week, sophomore Ashley Salgado (Ottumwa, IA/Ottumwa) has been honored by the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC). Salgado has been named this week's Volleyball Player of the Week. Last week, the libero was named Defensive Player of the Week.

Competing at the Central Nebraska Invitational, Salgado recorded 201 digs over the course of four matches. Salgado posted a career-high 78 digs in a five-set loss to McCook Community College on Saturday, topping her previous personal-best of 77 set on August 29 against Grand View JV. Salgado also recorded three service aces against McCook and totaled five throughout the invite.

Salgado posted dig totals of 38 in the opening match on Friday against Northeast Community College and 40 against Butler Community College. Despite suffering an ankle injury on Friday, Salgado returned on Saturday to total 122 digs over two matches, with 44 coming in the team's final match against tournament host and No. 5 nationally ranked Central Community College.

Salgado has dominated the conference and national statistical leaderboards all year. The sophomore leads all NJCAA divisions in digs with 471 and digs per set with 13.46. No other participant has more than 330 digs or 7.45 digs per set.

Salgado and the Tigers return to ICCAC play this week with a road game at Iowa Lakes on Wednesday. Match time is set for 7:00 PM.
