Tigers fall in straight sets to DMACC

Marshalltown, IA—The Marshalltown Community College women's volleyball team suffered a 3-0 loss to visiting Des Moines Area Community College on Wednesday night as the Tigers fall to 2-2 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) and 8-9 overall.

The Bears, who received votes in this week's NJCAA Division II poll, took the first two sets from MCC 25-18 and 25-18 before deflating the Tigers in the final set 25-11. The Tigers had won five of their previous six matches entering the night.

Offensively, the Tigers were paced by Katelyn Yauslin (Cedar Rapids, IA/Alburnett) with seven total kills on the night. Miranda Smith (Albion, IA/Marshalltown) chipped in with five. On the defensive end Ashley Salgado (Ottumwa, IA/Ottumwa) led the Tigers with 31 digs while Alyssa Whitmore (Legrand, IA/East Marshall) added 23.

MCC will travel to Palatine, IL this weekend to take part in the Harper College Invitational. The Tigers will take part in four games over two days, beginning with a 4:00 PM match against Lincoln Land on Friday. The Loggers, ranked No. 9 in this week's NJCAA Division II poll, defeated MCC at the Tiger Invitational last weekend with a 3-0 victory.
