Volleyball set to take on Kirkwood in Region XI Tournament

For the second consecutive year the Marshalltown Community College women's volleyball team will take on the top seed in their respective bracket in the Region XI Tournament. The Tigers will travel to Kirkwood Community College tonight for the opening round of the Region XI-B Tournament at 7:00 PM.

MCC received the No. 4 seed after upsetting Southeastern Community College on Oct. 30 to clinch a playoff berth. Kirkwood received the No. 1 seed after posting a 9-1 Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) record and a 31-7 overall mark on the year. The Eagles are currently ranked No. 8 in the latest NJCAA Division II polls.

In the only meeting between the two teams this year, Kirkwood swept the Tigers in straight sets at MCC, 25-20, 25-15, and 25-18 on Oct. 24.

The Tigers finished the regular season with a 4-6 mark in conference play while posting a 22-19 overall record, the team's most wins since 2005. The 2013 season also marks the first winning season at MCC since 2005.

The Tigers dropped a 3-0 match to Iowa Central in last year's Region XI-A Tournament as the No. 4 seed.

In the other Region XI-B pairing, No. 2 seed Southwestern Community College will host No. 3 seed Northeast Community College. The championship game will be played at Iowa Central in Fort Dodge, IA on Nov. 9 at 2:00 PM.
