Tigers sweep Grand View JV for third straight win

Marshalltown, IA—The Marshalltown Community College volleyball team picked up its third consecutive win on Tuesday night, dropping the visiting Grand View JV 3-0. The Tigers have won nine of their last 11 sets to improve to 4-8 on the year.

Jadelyn Rohach (Toledo, IA/South Tama) recorded a team-high 13 kills for the Tigers. Sam Hinrichs (Ankeny, IA/Ankeny), Kayla Prosser (Eldora, IA/South Hardin), and Mady Van Metre (Marshalltown, IA/Ames) contributed eight kills apiece.

Hinrichs, this week's Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) Player of the Week posted 31 assists, her third straight match of at least 30 assists. Jena Boisen (Garrison, IA/Union) posted eight digs to go along with a team-high four service aces.

After finishing up the Tiger Invitational with two wins on Saturday, MCC kept things rolling on Tuesday night at the Student Activity Center. The Tigers jumped out to an 11-4 lead in the opening set. The Vikings fought back, but the Tigers held off a threatening rally to take the game 25-21.

The Vikings put up more of a fight through the opening volleys to start the second set. The Tigers never led by more than two midway through the frame. After tying the set at 15, the Vikings took their first lead of the set, and built their advantage to 22-19. Grand View was on the verge of evening the match with a 24-22 lead, only to see the Tigers claw their way back.

Emily Anker (Earlham, IA/Earlham) served on two straight points to avoid the loss. Tied at 24, Prosser buried two consecutive kills to take the win and give MCC a comfortable 2-0 lead. The Tigers had no problems in the third set as MCC posted a .643 hitting percentage to complete the sweep.

MCC hosts Region XI Division II member Iowa Lakes Community College at 7:00 PM tomorrow night in the Student Activity Center.
