Sophomore Sam Hinrichs (Ankeny, IA/Ankeny) of the Marshalltown Community College volleyball team has been named the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) Athlete of the Week after leading the Tigers to a pair of wins on the final day of the 2014 Tiger Invitational.
Playing as the team's primary setter, Hinrichs recorded a career-high 47 assists in the team's opening match on Saturday, a 3-1 win over Allen County Community College. Hinrichs upped her own mark with a 50-assist effort in a 3-1 win over Neosho County Community College in the final match of the day.
For the week, Hinrichs totaled 153 assists in five matches to go along with 26 kills and 41 digs.
Hinrichs becomes the first MCC volleyball player to earn ICCAC Player of the Week honors since Meghann Cole (Des Moines, IA/West Des Moines Valley) and Alyssa Whitmore earned the award on Oct. 8, 2013.
The Tigers return to action with a pair of home games this week. MCC will host Grand View JV tonight at 7:00 PM and Iowa Lakes Community College at 7:00 PM tomorrow night at the Student Activity Center.
