Second-ranked Reivers overwhelm Tigers

Council Bluffs, IA—Second-ranked Iowa Western Community College dropped Marshalltown Community College 3-0 in Iowa Community College Athletic Conference volleyball action on Wednesday night. The Tigers fall to 0-2 in conference play and 7-14 overall.

The Reivers, ranked second in this week's NJCAA Division I Poll after spending the previous two weeks at No. 1, dominated the opening set, taking a 1-0 lead with a 25-8 victory in the first game. The Tigers battled their way to a late lead in the second set, taking a 15-14 advantage and forcing an Iowa Western timeout. The Reivers came out of the break and scored 11 of the game's next 17 points to come from behind and go up 2-0. A 6-0 run to start the third set put the game out of reach early as the Reivers swept MCC with a 25-11 win.

Mady Van Metre (Marshalltown, IA/Ames) posted five kills on the night. Freshman Karissa Wilcoxson (Ottumwa, IA/Ottumwa) came off the bench to record three kills for the Tigers. Sam Hinrichs (Ankeny, IA/Ankeny) dished out a team-high 14 assists.
