Tigers split a pair of matches at Central JV

Pella, IA—The Marshalltown Community College volleyball team split a pair of matches on Thursday night at the Central College JV Tri, defeating the host Dutch 3-1 before falling 3-1 to Grand View JV. The Tigers are now 11-17 on the year.

Playing on their second of four consecutive nights, the Tigers rebounded from a Wednesday night loss to Ellsworth Community College to take down Central JV in Thursday's opener. The Tigers took the first two sets, 25-20 and 25-22. The Dutch stayed alive with a 25-21 win in the third, but the Tigers held on with a 25-18 win in the fourth to take the match.

Kayla Prosser (Eldora, IA/South Hardin) recorded a double-double with 12 kills and 12 digs while Mady Van Metre (Marshalltown, IA/Ames) tallied a team-high 16 kills in the win.

The Tigers looked to pick up not only their second win of the night, but their second win of the year over Grand View JV in the nightcap. MCC defeated the Vikings 3-0 at the Student Activity Center on Sept. 16. The Tigers took the opening set 25-18, but Grand View JV responded with three straight wins, 25-21, 25-22, and 25-21, to drop MCC.

Prosser produced another solid outing for the Tigers, upping her previous total to 19 kills along with 12 digs. The freshman added two service aces on the night and currently ranks third among all NJCAA Division I players with 54.

Sam Hinrichs (Ankeny, IA/Ankeny) posted 74 total assists on the night and added 12 digs against Grand View JV.

The Tigers travel to Boone, IA for the two-day, four-match Des Moines Area Community College Invitational, starting Friday morning. MCC opens up at 11:00 AM against Parkland College.
