Top-ranked Iowa Western drops MCC 3-0

Marshalltown, IA—The Marshalltown Community College volleyball team dropped a 3-0 match to top-ranked Iowa Western Community College on Wednesday night at the Student Activity Center. Kayla Prosser (Eldora, IA/South Hardin) recorded a team-best eight kills in the loss.

The Tigers dropped their second match of the year to Iowa Western, ranked No. 1 in this week's NJCAA Division I Poll. The Tigers fall to 15-23 on the year and 0-4 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) while the Reivers improve to 36-1 overall and 3-0 in league play.

Iowa Western jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the opening set and maintained its pace throughout the game to take the opener 25-13. The Reivers carried their momentum into the second, but the Tigers hung around, tying the set at nine. The Reivers rattled off 11 of the next 15 points to take the set 25-17.

The Reivers made quick work early on in the third with a 16-6 lead, but MCC battled back as Mady Van Metre (Marshalltown, IA/Ames) buried a kill to tie the match at 22. The Reivers came out of a timeout to score three straight points and end the match, 25-22.

Seven sophomores were recognized prior to the start of the team's final home match on Wednesday- Jade Rohach (Toledo, IA/South Tama), Sam Hinrichs (Ankeny, IA/Ankeny), Riley Clark (Papillion, NE/Papillion La Vista South), Reeba Box (Liscomb, IA/BCLUW), Van Metre, and Emily Anker (Earlham, IA/Earlham).

The Tigers travel to Southwestern Community College for a tri-match with the Spartans and Highland Community College on Friday.
