Tigers drop a pair in regular season finale

Boone, IA—The Marshalltown Community College volleyball team dropped two matches at the Des Moines Area Community College Invitational on Friday afternoon, falling 3-1 in the opener to Iowa Central Community College and 3-0 against Kirkwood Community College.

The Tigers opened up play on Friday against the Tritons, ranked No. 19 in this week's NJCAA Division II Poll. MCC stole the opening set from Iowa Central, taking the game 25-23. Game two proved to be another back-and-forth struggle, but this time the Tigers were on the short end, 26-24. Iowa Central took the next two sets, 25-19 and 25-15 for the match win.

Kayla Prosser (Eldora, IA/South Hardin) led the Tigers with 15 kills and added three service aces. Sam Hinrichs (Ankeny, IA/Ankeny) recorded 42 assists in the loss. Freshman Alanna Dubberke (Cambridge, IA/Ballard) posted 10 kills to the stat sheet.

In match number two, the Tigers fell in straight sets to Eagles, ranked No. 6 in the NJCAA Division II Poll. Kirkwood used set wins of 25-18, 25-12, and 25-19 to take down MCC.

Prosser again paced the offensive attack with eight kills, but the Tigers hit just .080 percent for the match.

The Tigers finish the regular season 17-25. MCC will travel to Mattoon, IL for the District D Tournament to take on John A. Logan at 1:00 PM on Nov. 7 in the six-team, double-elimination tournament.
