Tigers stumble in opening round of District D Tournament

Mattoon, IL—The Marshalltown Community College women's volleyball team dropped its opening match of the District D Tournament, suffering a 3-1 loss to John A. Logan in the double-elimination tournament. MCC will play at 10:00 AM on Saturday.

The Tigers opened up play at the District D Tournament against the Volunteers who entered postseason play with a 21-8 record. The Tigers dropped the first two sets, 25-15 and 25-19, but battled back to take a hard-fought third set, 26-24. The Tigers comeback effort fell short in the fourth set, falling 25-12 to close out the match.

The Tigers committed 31 hitting errors on the night for a .086 hitting percentage. Kayla Prosser (Eldora, IA/South Hardin) posted a team-high 13 kills in the loss.

Sam Hinrichs (Ankeny, IA/Ankeny) dished out 29 assists while Meghann Cole (Des Moines, IA/West Des Moines Valley) recorded four total blocks and seven kills for the Tigers.

The Tigers played in the opening match of the tournament and will have to wait to find out their opponent for Saturday. The winner of Indian Hills Community College and Kaskaskia Community College, which will be played at 3:00 PM today, will play host Lake Land Community College tonight at 7:00 PM. The loser of that match will play the Tigers first thing Saturday morning.
