Postseason run ends with 3-1 loss to John A. Logan

Mattoon, IL—The Marshalltown Community College volleyball season came to a close on Saturday, falling in the loser's bracket of the NJCAA District D Tournament after surviving earlier in the day. The Tigers were eliminated from playoff contention with a 3-1 loss to John A. Logan College.

After defeating tournament host Lake Land College 3-1 earlier the day, the Tigers matched up against John A. Logan for the second time in the tournament. The Volunteers dropped MCC 3-1 on Friday night to force the Tigers into the elimination bracket of the double-elimination tournament.

John A. Logan, fresh off a victory over Kaskaskia College earlier in the day, opened up the survive-and-advance match against MCC with a 25-18 win in the first set. The Tigers rebounded with a 27-25 victory to even the match at one. MCC hung tough in the next two sets, but it was the Volunteers that came out on top with wins of 25-21 and 25-23.

Against John A. Logan, Kayla Prosser (Eldora, IA/South Hardin) recorded 17 kills to go along with two service aces. The freshman now leads all NJCAA Division I participants with 90 total kills on the year.

Meghann Cole (Des Moines, IA/West Des Moines Valley) recorded 10 kills and Sam Hinrichs (Ankeny, IA/Ankeny) added 36 assists and 10 digs on the day.

MCC finishes the year with a record of 18-27.
