Volleyball advances in District D Tournament

Mattoon, IL—Three players recorded double-digit kill totals on Saturday morning to keep the Marshalltown Community College women's volleyball team postseason run alive at the NJCAA District D Tournament. The Tigers dropped tournament host Lake Land College 3-1.

MCC advances to face the winner of Kaskaskia College and John A. Logan College at 2:00 PM today in the double-elimination tournament. The Tigers fell in their opening match of the tournament 3-1 to John A. Logan Friday afternoon.

The Tigers (18-26) took the first two sets from the Lakers (24-15), 25-23 and 25-14. Lake Land took the third set  25-19, but the Tigers controlled the fourth set thanks to a .429 hitting percentage to take the match.

Meghann Cole (Des Moines, IA/West Des Moines Valley) and Jena Boisen (Garrison, IA/Union each totaled 12 kills in the win while Kayla Prosser (Eldora, IA/South Hardin) added 10. Prosser also registered a team-high six service aces and takes over the top spot in the nation with 88 total service aces on the year.

Sam Hinrichs (Ankeny, IA/Ankeny) provided strong play on all ends of the court, giving out 40 assists and adding six kills. Reeba Box (Liscomb, IA/BCLUW) posted 16 digs to go along with 13 from Prosser.
