Kirkwood takes down MCC in regular season finale

Marshalltown, IA—The Marshalltown Community College Volleyball team's regular season came to a close with a 3-0 loss to visiting Kirkwood Community College at the Student Activity Center on Thursday night. The Tigers fell by scores of 25-8, 25-10, and 25-16.

The Tigers (4-21) fell behind early in the first two sets and failed to make any sort of comeback. The offense came alive midway through the third set as the Tigers strung together six straight points to pull within two, 14-12, and force a Kirkwood timeout. The Eagles (26-15) regrouped out of the huddle and were able to finish off the Tigers in straight sets.

Sophomore Lannie Dubberke (Cambridge, IA/Ballard) led the Tigers with seven kills on 17 attempts in the match. Freshman Jordan Carter (Sigourney, IA/Sigourney) added six kills. Rieley Rodman (Ankeny, IA/Grand View Christian) totaled 12 digs while Paola Toledo (Boca Chica, Dominican Republic/San Rafael) and DaNesha Cowley (Waterloo, IA/Waterloo West) totaled nine and seven digs, respectively.

Raini Hilmer (Dysart, IA/Union) posted six digs and 15 assists in the loss.

Thursday night's match was the final regular season game for Dubberke who was recognized prior to the start of the night. Dubberke has appeared in 65 career matches over two seasons for the Tigers.

MCC travels to the District D Tournament, hosted by Iowa Western Community College, on Friday, Nov. 6. The Tigers will take on John A. Logan College of Region XXIV at 3:30 PM in the double-elimination tournament.
