The Marshalltown Community College Department of Athletics has announced the hiring of Justin Hoskins as the program's head volleyball coach. Hoskins will begin his tenure at MCC on August 9.
"We are extremely fortunate to be able to add Justin to our coaching staff," MCC Director of Athletics Kathleen Brown expressed. "He brings a wealth of knowledge and junior college experience that both the girls and the department will benefit from. All of our coaches really go the extra mile to provide the best experience for our student-athletes and Justin will be no different. I am excited to see the progress that this year will bring under Justin's leadership for our student-athletes and our volleyball program both on and off the court."
Hoskins comes to MCC after spending the 2014 and 2015 seasons at Brunswick Community College in North Carolina. Taking over a program that accrued just one win in 2013, Hoskins led the Dolphins to a seven-win improvement in his first season and guided the team to its first-ever 20-win season in his second campaign.
Prior to his time at Brunswick, Hoskins served as an assistant coach at Morningside College in Sioux City, IA and as the girls high school club volleyball coach with Midwest Volleyball Power.
Hoskins sees MCC as an opportunity to help turn around a team that won four games in 2015. "I'm excited to be a part of a program that has the tools in place to rebuild," Hoskins stated. "Seeing a program that has the chance to make a turnaround and head in a new direction really attracted me to MCC."
A native of Springfield, NE, Hoskins also pointed towards the location as a contributing factor to take the helm of the Tigers.
"Along with my experience as a head coach, I believe I have the ability to connect well with the players while helping them work to get to the next level of their volleyball careers. I'm looking forward to having a team of hard-working players and do what we can to prepare ourselves to play our best volleyball by the end of the year."
Hoskins earned a bachelor's degree in K-12 Health and Physical Education from Wayne State College and is currently pursuing a master's degree in Athletic Administration from Concordia University.
