Beatrice, NE—Day two of the RKP Invite proved to be a different story for the Marshalltown Community College Volleyball team as the Tigers rattled off a pair of wins to close out their weekend at Southeast Community College. MCC dropped tournament host Southeast and Southwestern Community College by scores of 3-1.

After dropping a pair of matches, both in five sets on Friday at the RKP Invite, the Tigers rebounded for the team's first two wins of the year on Saturday. MCC dropped its first set of the day to Southeast, but pulled away from the Storm in the final three frames. The Tigers used an early first set win to set the tone vs. Southwestern and held off the Spartans in two close sets to go 2-0 on the day.

In set one against Southeast, the Tigers jumped out early, taking an 8-4 lead. MCC built its largest margin at 15-7, but the Storm battled back to take the lead and eventually the set, 25-23. The Tigers got off to a slow start in set two as the Storm took the first four points, but a pair of points from Sara Bisbe (Barcelona, Spain/CB Saint Cugat) and a kill from Nina Bales (Lacona, IA/Southeast Warren) led to a tie score at six. After a brief delay due to a problem with the net, MCC gradually pulled away and took set two, 25-21.

MCC faced little trouble in set three against Southeast, leading for much of the early portions, only to see the Storm come back and take a 14-12 lead. The Tigers dug deep and continued to battle, eventually rallying for a 25-20 victory. Set four was all MCC as the Tigers led throughout, leading to a 25-14 win and the team's first victory of the year.

In the second and final match of the day for MCC, the Tigers controlled set one with a 25-10 victory. After narrowly dropping set two, 26-24, the Tigers outlasted Southwestern 29-27 in set three to take a convincing 2-1 lead in the match. MCC finished strong, taking down the Spartans 25-19 in the final frame.

Next up for the Tigers is a trip to Grand View JV on August 30 at 7:00 PM before opening their home schedule on August 31 at 7:00 PM vs. Waldorf JV.
