Volleyball drops a pair at NECC Tournament

Norfolk, NE—The Marshalltown Community College Volleyball team dropped a pair of games at the Northeast Community College Tournament on Saturday afternoon. The Tigers fell to Central Community College-Columbus and tournament hosts Northeast 3-0 in each match.

MCC dropped its first match of the day against Central by set scores of 25-12, 25-13, and 25-13. Northeast took down the Tigers for the second time this season by scores of 25-11, 25-13, and 25-14.

Sophomore Jordan Carter (Sigourney, IA/Sigourney) tallied a team-high nine kills in the opening match against the Raiders and Paola Toledo (Boca Chica/Dominican Republic) added five. Nina Banes (Lacona, IA/Southeast Warren) distributed 20 assists while Rieley Rodman (Ankeny, IA/Grand View Christian) tallied 10 digs.

In the nightcap match against the Hawks, Carter paced MCC once again, going for seven kills and 11 digs. Sara Bisbe (Barcelona, Spain/CV Saint Cugat) and Rodman both racked up 15 digs. DaNesha Cowley (Waterloo, IA/Waterloo West) posted three block assists in the loss.

Next up for the Tigers is the team's 2016 Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) opener as MCC hosts Iowa Western Community College at 7:00 PM on Sept. 7.
