Creston, IA—Freshman Sara Bisbe (Barcelona, Spain/CV Saint Cugat) racked up a team-high 19 kills to lead the Marshalltown Community College volleyball team to a 3-0 victory on the road at Southwestern Community College on Monday night. The sweep is the first of the year for the Tigers.

MCC improved to 5-12 on the year with the win, the team's second of the year over the Spartans. The Tigers dropped Southwestern by straight set scores of 25-12, 25-22, and 25-13. MCC also defeated Southwestern 3-1 in Beatrice, NE on August 27.

Along with Bisbe's 19 kills, sophomore DaNesha Cowley (Waterloo, IA/Waterloo West) added a career-high 12 kills in the win. Freshman Nina Bales (Lacona, IA/Southeast Warren) totaled 32 assists. Jordan Carter (Sigourney, IA/Sigourney) tallied nine kills.

Carter got the Tigers off to a strong start on Monday night, burying her first attack of the night for a kill and followed up with back-to-back aces as the Tigers built a 5-0 lead in the first set. MCC faced little opposition in the first frame after posting a .485 hitting percentage to pick up the opening set.

Both sides went back and forth to open set two, but it was MCC that outlasted the Spartans with the victory. The Tigers finished off the home team in the final set as Cowley posted seven kills in the frame.

The Tigers return to Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) play on the road Wednesday night at Indian Hills Community College. Match time is set for 7:00 PM at the Hellyer Center.
