Volleyball struggles on the road at No. 17 Indian Hills

Ottumwa, IA—The Marshalltown Community College volleyball team fell in straight sets to No. 17 Indian Hills Community College on Wednesday night. The Tigers fell 25-9, 25-14, and 25-6 to the Warriors at the Hellyer Center.

The Tigers (5-13/0-2) found themselves with an early lead against the Warriors (17-3/1-1). Both teams traded the first 11 points of the opening set, but Indian Hills rattled of 20 of the next 23 points to take the set. The Warriors used early runs in each of the next two sets to drop the Tigers in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) contest.

Sophomores Jordan Carter (Sigourney, IA/Sigourney), DaNesha Cowley (Waterloo, IA/Waterloo West), and Nicole Montgomery (Beaman, IA/BCLUW) all posted three kills for the Tigers in the loss. Freshman Nina Bales (Lacona, IA/Southeast Warren) totaled 10 assists for MCC.

The Tigers return to action on Saturday with a trip to the NIACC Tournament in Mason City, IA. MCC will play tournament host North Iowa Area Community College at 11:00 AM followed by a match against Ellsworth Community College at 2:00 PM.
