Tigers roll to sweep on Faculty and Staff Appreciation Night

Marshalltown, IA—The Marshalltown Community College volleyball team put together a solid performance on Faculty and Staff Appreciation Night as the Tigers swept William Penn JV 3-0 at the Student Activity Center. MCC won in straight sets 25-20, 25-17, and 25-9.

After expressing their appreciation for all faculty and staff in attendance, the Tigers hit the court against the Statesmen. MCC save its act for the final frame, posting a .402 hitting percentage to sweep William Penn JV for the second time in the last week.

The Tigers distributed the ball evenly throughout the lineup on Thursday night. DaNesha Cowley (Waterloo, IA/Waterloo West) led MCC with 11 kills and a .350 hitting percentage. Sophomore Jordan Carter (Sigourney, IA/Sigourney) totaled 10 kills on a team-high 27 attempts and freshman Sara Bisbe (Barcelona, Spain/CV Saint Cugat) added eight kills.

Freshman Nina Bales (Lacona, IA/Southeast Warren) acted as the primarily ball handler and dished out 34 assists. Nicole Montgomery (Beaman, IA/BCLUW) posted 10 digs and four service aces, including three in the second set alone.

The Tigers used early leads in each set to take the match from William Penn JV. MCC led 9-3 in the opening frame and an 8-2 edge to start set two. Bisbe's service ace put MCC up 4-0 in set three and the Tigers cruised the rest of the way to earn the sweep.

MCC's next match, originally scheduled for Monday night at Waldorf JV, has been cancelled. The Tigers will host Northeast Community College on Oct. 27 for the team's final home match of the year.
