Tigers defeat Trojans 3-1

The 11-6 MCC volleyball team hosted the 4-10 NIACC Trojans Friday night in the Student Activity Center on the Marshalltown Community College campus. The Tigers and Trojans battled for four sets but in the end, the Tigers were able to hold off and secure the victory. The Tigers played well in the first set but the Trojans would not back down as they made a late run but the Tigers prevailed 26-24. In the second set, the Trojans stepped up and moved the match to 1-1 taking the set 22-25. The third set was a competitive back and forth, as both teams held the lead throughout. The Tigers were able to outlast the Trojans winning the set 25-18. In a dominating fourth set, the Tigers coasted to a 25-14 win and won the match 3-1.

"It feels good to win at home again in front of our own crowd," stated freshmen outside hitter Jesenia Colbert, "we played more relaxed and played as a team. I think we minimized our mistakes and played more aggressively and that allowed us to put up points."

Coach Hoskins was pleased with his team's performance after the game, "Tonight's win was all about the eight girls we had suited up tonight. After struggling a little bit the first two sets to find ways to finish, we were able to make the mental and physical adjustments necessary to close out the third and fourth set strongly."

The Tigers will be back in action on Monday when they travel to Ellsworth to take on the 6-15 Panthers. The match will start at 7:00 PM.
