Tigers go 1-1 in Weekend Triangular

Saturday afternoon, MCC Volleyball hosted Grand View University JV and Southeast Community College in the Student Activity Center on the Marshalltown campus. The 17-9 Tigers were coming off a dramatic five-set victory over William Penn JV on Thursday night and looking to extend their win steak versus two teams they had defeated earlier in the season.

The Tigers cruised to a straight-sets victory in their opening matchup versus the Vikings (25-19, 25-19, 25-23). Competing with only seven healthy players, the Tigers relied on a well- balanced attack and received contributions from everyone in the lineup. "We really had to change the way we played today" stated second-year Head Coach, Justin Hoskins. "Anytime you're putting in new rotations and systems on the day of the match, it's a little stressful. Nevertheless, the girls were able to learn on the fly, play clean volleyball, and found a way to win. Some of our girls were asked to contribute in new ways today and they did a great job of stepping up and getting the job done."

The Tiger's second match of the day saw the Tigers take on the Storm of Southeast Community College. The Tigers could not get rolling against the Storm and fell in straight sets (11-25, 21-25, 22-25). "We played very inconsistent volleyball today, at times got into a good rhythm and looked sharp in all aspects, but at times we had areas of our game breakdown." Stated Coach Hoskins after the match. "I think we had three evenly matched teams here today, and against evenly matched teams the team that executes better is going to win, we executed better for one match and we got out executed the second match. The good news is that we get back on the court Monday and hopefully we can get back in the win column."

The 18-10 Tigers will be back in action on Monday when they travel to Southwestern Community College. The Tigers were able to defeat the Spartans 3-2 earlier in the year. The match will start at 7:00 PM.
