Tiger Volleyball Start 1-0 After Defeating Cougars

Sanford, NC – The Marshalltown Community College volleyball team started the 2018 season with a victory on the road Wednesday night. The team has traveled to North Carolina for five matches to start the season. The first stop was in Sanford, North Carolina to take on the Cougars of Central Carolina Community College. The Tigers made quick work of the Cougars, finishing them off in straight sets 25-7, 25-10, and 25-7.

"We played really good volleyball at times tonight," stated Head Coach, Justin Hoskins. "We also played really sloppy volleyball at times. Hopefully we got some nerves and mental mistakes out tonight so that we can build on the good things we did as we continue our road trip."

A solid night offensively for the Tigers, freshman Marija Eqic recorded 10 kills and assisted in two blocks. Elena Yee also played well on the outside with nine kills. The Tigers added height to the front row that was not there last year, which will hopefully lead to an increase in blocks this season . Jade Jenkins, Marjia Eqic, and Chiara Mottola are all over 5'10 with Eqic breaking six foot. The trio will hopefully provide the Tigers with a defensive wall to be reckoned with.

The Tigers will travel to Allendale, South Carolina for a 6:00 PM EDT match with the University of South Carolina Salkehatchie on Thursday. The Indians have yet to play this year, but struggled a season ago, finishing 0-15 while losing all 15 matches in straight sets.
