Campers Night Delight

Campers Night Delight

Marshalltown, IA – Three straight home by eight. That was the story of Tuesday's volleyball home opener against the Spartans of Southwestern Community College. Fast starts and stringing points together made easy work of the Spartans, defeating them in straight sets 25-17, 25-14, 25-14. The 2018 summer campers were in attendance for 'Campers Night' and the team put on a great show for their young fans.

"It was great being able to get a win at home tonight," stated Head Coach Justin Hoskins. "We had a good student section and it was fun having a lot of our campers in attendance. We've got some things to prepare for and clean up to beat Hawkeye on Friday, so hopefully we'll have a good few days of practice this week and come out ready to play."

MCC sophomore setter, Jelena Dukic, recorded over 30 assists in three sets and maintained her #1 rank in the NJCAA for most assists per set. The Tigers spread the ball around against the Spartans, Elena Yee, Chiara Mottola, and Jade Jenkins all recorded eight or more kills on the night. Defensively, freshmen Jade Jenkins and Marija Egic got together for multiple blocks, a component of the Tigers game that has not be there in recent years. Although making some mistakes, the team looks fluid and capable of making their presence known in a very tough Distract XI.

The Tigers are now 8-0 and look to keep the streak alive this Friday when the team travels to Waterloo, Iowa for a showdown with the Red Tails of Hawkeye Community College. The Red Tails are playing very well so far this season, at 9-1 the team has given up only four sets all season long. Statistically the two teams match up very well. The Red Tails are led offensively by freshman outside hitter, Megan Hudson, who has averaged over 4.5 kills per set. A tought test, but the undefeated Tigers are playing well and have great momentum.
