Frank Hanes Named Assistant Volleyball Coach

The Marshalltown Community College athletic department has hired Frank Hanes to fill the role of assistant volleyball coach to help Head Coach Justin Hoskins this season. Hanes has experience at high levels within the volleyball world, both as a player and coach.

"Frank is going to be a strong asset to our program," stated Hoskins. "He possesses a strong volleyball IQ and wants to continue to grow as a coach. Being familiar with each other through coaching club together, we have a good report and complement each other. I believe our program will benefit for having Frank with us."

Hanes has played at on a number of nationally competitive teams throughout his career. The 2014 season was Hanes most successful, playing for Ultimate VBC, Hanes finished 10th at Junior Nationals, later that year he finished eighth in the U18 National Beach Championships. That year Hanes played for the USAV High Performance A2 team, who trained at the Olympic Training Center with the Junior Olympic Team. Since then Hanes played for the Iowa State Men's volleyball Club and was an Iowa State Women's practice player from 2014-2018.

During his time at Iowa State Hanes started coaching at Iowa Heart Volleyball Club, which was highlighted by a Silver Bracket Championship at the Asics National Championships. While at Iowa Heart, Hanes was the Head Coach for 15 year olds and 17 year olds, and assisted with 16 year olds. Coach Hanes and Coach Hoskins met while they were both coaching at Iowa Heart.

"I want to thank Coach Hoskins for this opportunity here at MCC," stated Hanes. "I've wanted to get into collegiate coaching and MCC has given me an opportunity to do that. Working with Coach Hoskins has been great at the club level and now in a Division I Junior College. I can't wait to get to work and help our student athletes on and off the court."
