4-0 at Taco Johns Spike Fest

Burlington, IA – The MCC volleyball team has enjoyed one of the best starts to a season in Tiger history. After Sunday's 4-0 mark at Southeastern Community College's Taco Johns Spike Fest, the team moved to 19-2. The Tigers took on Kankekee Community College, Southeastern Community College, Lake Land College, and Iowa Wesleyan University JV.

Kankekee Community College, W, 25-18, 25-15, 25-10

The Tigers started the day at 9:00 AM against Kanekee, the team had no problem waking up, easily taking the match in straight sets.

 Marija Egic led the way with 20 kills on 32 total attacks. Elena Yee also had a great performance offensively, recording 12 kills and one error. Sophomore Jelena Dukic led the team is two stat categories, recording 35 assists and 11 digs.

Collectively, the team recorded 45 kills on 87 attempts for a .437 hitting percentage.

Southeastern Community College, W, 25-23, 25-21, 25-19

The team continued its great play in their 10:00 Am match with the host school, Southeastern Community College. Freshman Marija Egic again led the team in kills, this time will 13 on 29 total attempts. Sadie Smith showed her ability to make plays on the outside, recording 10 total kills and 6 digs.

Defensively, Halee Predro and Jelena Dukic made several athletic plays, recording 16 and 12 digs respectively. Dukic continued to set the offense, recording 34 assists for the match.

Lake Land College, W, 25-22, 25-16, 25-19

The Tigers had their most competitive match of the day against Lake Land, to get over the top the Tiger spread the ball, seeing success form multiple players.

Marija Egic, Chiara Mottola, and Elena Yee all finished with over 10 kills, with Egic leading the team with 15. Jelena Dukic recorded her 14th match with over 30 assists this season, she was able to record 38 against Lake Land. Halee Pedro again led the team with 11 digs, followed by Jelena Dukic with nine and Elena Yee and Sadie Smith each recorded eight.

Iowa Wesleyan University JV, W, 25-15, 25-19, 25-10

 The final match of the day started at 4:00 PM as MCC took on the JV squad of Iowa Wesleyan University. MCC dominated from start to finish, offensively freshman Elena Yee set the pace, recording 15 kills on 22 total attacks for a .682 hitting percentage. Chiara Mottola and Sadie Smith each finished with nine kills and Marija Egic finished with seven.

Defensively, Halee Pedro recorded 15 digs and was assisted by Fauneil Olander and Raquel Gonzales who each recorded seven digs.

The Tigers will now get a few days off before traveling to Ottumwa, Iowa for a critical ICCAC match up with Indian Hills Community College. The Warriors are currently 11-7 this season and have lost four of their last six matches. With the new rules allowing the top two teams in the Region to move on, Wednesday's match is the most important match of the year so far if the Tigers expect to make it into the post season.
