Men's basketball finishes fourth at Highland Classic

Freeport, IL—Nick Cross (Beverly, MA/Beverly) scored a career-high 26 points but the Marshalltown Community College Men's Basketball team fell 85-75 to Sauk Valley Community College in the consolation game of the 48th annual William R. Bear Classic hosted by Highland Community College. The Tigers, who won the championship in 2014, finished fourth in the eight-team tournament.

Cross finished the night 8-16 from the field, including 6-14 from three-point range to post a personal-best mark. In three games at the tournament, Cross averaged 17.6 points on 47.5 percent shooting and connected on 11 three-point shots. The sophomore also grabbed a career-high eight rebounds.

Sophomore Tyler Miller (Louisville, KY/22ft Academy) scored 12 points and also grabbed eight rebounds while Souf Mensah (Nantes, France/CCI scored 11 points and contributed a career-high eight assists.

The Tigers trailed 43-36 at halftime before the Skyhawks outscored MCC by three points in the final 20 minutes.

MCC wraps up the first half of the season at home on Wednesday with a 7:00 PM contest against Iowa Lakes as part of a doubleheader with the MCC Women's Basketball team who hosts the Lakers at 5:00 PM.
