Freshmen Emerge in 4-0 Win over Anoka-Ramsey CC

Coon Rapids, MN – The Tiger soccer team earned another victory on Sunday, scoring four goals in the first half to defeat the Rams of Anoko-Ramsey Community College. A big night for the freshmen class, with three separate freshmen scoring the teams four goals. The Tigers earned their first win of the season on Friday, defeating Carleton College 4-0. Saturday the team had a day off and went to the Minnesota Twins and Oakland Athletics baseball game at Target Field in Minneapolis.

Sunday's game started fast and if you showed up a little late, may have entered the stadium with the Tigers up. In just the second minute of the game, freshman Sekou Kromah, put the ball in the net with an assist by fellow freshman Gustavo Leal. Just one minute later, Kromah scored again to put the Tigers up 2-0 in just the third minute of play. A few minutes later freshman Aleix Viladot scored. Over 30 minutes passed before freshman Jiro Atano put the ball in the net to go up 4-0. The Tigers aggressive style showed up again on Sunday with 13 shots on goal while Tiger goalkeeper, Joel Serrano, was never shot on.

"It was a very good performance for our players," stated Head Coach Rafael Martinez. "The team was concentrated and ready for the task of playing a good Anoka Ramsey team."

When asked about the Tigers fast start and aggressive offense, Martinez stated, "We had a perfect start, scoring two goals in three minutes. After that, we tried to control the tempo of the match while still maintaining an offensive approach, which resulted in the following two goals."

The Tigers are now 2-0 after the weekend, and are ready for the tough competition of the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference.

"Overall it was the perfect weekend with two good matches against quality opponents that made us better as a team," stated Martinez. "We now look forward to the next challenge."

Up next for the Tigers will be the Red Tails of Hawkeye Community College on Tuesday, August 28 at 4:00 PM on the MCC soccer field. The Red Tails have yet to play a regular season game this season. A season ago, the Tigers and Red Tails played twice, with the Tigers coming out on top 5-1 and 5-0. For more information on the men's soccer team, follow @MCCTigers_MSOC on twitter.
