Tigers Stomp Eagles

Marshalltown, IA – The men's soccer team hosted the Eagles of Scott Community College on Wednesday night at the MCC Soccer Field. The two teams have a long history of playing each other, memories the Eagles would like to forget. The Tigers and Eagles have played 20 times in the last ten years, the Tigers have won all 20 games. In the eight years head coach Rafael Martinez has been at the helm, he has won 16 and has outscored the Eagles 82-8 in those contests.

Wednesday night would be no different, the Tigers coasted their way to a 9-0 victory lead by freshman Kazuki Kimura who finished with a hat trick and sophomore Taiki Kinugawa who finished with two goals.

In just the second minute of play sophomore Rafael Vacas put the Tigers in an early 1-0 lead with an assist from Evandro Resende. Kimura and Kinugawa each added their first goals of the night in the following five minutes. Kimura would make the game 4-0 in the 22nd minute of play and took the Tigers into half time.

The Tigers extended their lead to 5-0 in the opening minutes of the second half when Matheus Pereira found the back of the net with an assist from Sekou Kromah. Gerald Diaz was able to find the net after a great run and passes from Taiki Kinugawa and Pedro Silva that opened Diaz up for a wide open shot on the goal in the 70th minute of play.

Kingawa and Kimura each added their final goals of the game with assists from Gerald Diaz and Nicolas Mattaldi. Mattaldi was back in the action just a few minutes later, recording his second assist of the night when Marco Medeiros found the net in the 88th minute of play.

Tom Wackens received the start in the net for the Tigers, replacing sophomore Joel Serrano. Wckens finished with a clean sheet in his 90 minutes with Scott not being able to record a single shot on goal.

"I'm very happy with the performance by our guys tonight," stated Head Coach Rafael Martinez.  "We played our style for 90 minutes and didn't change our play because of the score. I think that was nice to see after the poor performance we had in our last game, playing for just 70 minutes. We will be happy tonight but we look now to a tough team in Iowa Lakes on Saturday."

Iowa Lakes Community College is currently 10-1-1 overall and 5-0 in conference play. The Lakers are currently on a five game win streak and will look to play spoiler to the Tigers yet again. Last season the Tigers went into Spencer 6-0 and left with a 4-2 loss that stung all season long. The Lakers are led by Shaqon Bryan, who has scored 10 goals this season, tied for second most in the conference. The Tigers and Lakers will meet on the MCC Soccer Field at 2:00 PM on Saturday, September 29. For more information on the MCC soccer team follow @MCCTigers_MSOC on the twitter.
