Fourth Quarter Frenzy

Fourth Quarter Frenzy

Eva Carballo continued to shine as the Tigers hosted the JV Statesmen of William Penn. Carballo, who has been leaned on heavily over the past week since an ankle injury to Clara Solsona, scored 21 points against the Statesmen on Thursday, December 12. Carballo's 21 points led all scorers and marked the second time in three contests that Carballo has put up 20 or more points.

The Thursday night game was closely contested for much of the game. The Tigers would build a lead, then William Penn would cut into it. The Tigers would build a lead, then William Penn would again cut back into it. That was the story up until the start of the fourth quarter. Leading the matchup 51-45, the Tigers dominated the fourth quarter 18-5 and ran away from the Statesmen for a 69-50 victory.

Throughout the fourth quarter, the Tigers seemed to want it more than the visiting Statesmen. They were more physical, faster to the ball, and more aggressive. Hustle plays helped generate scoring opportunities and those scoring opportunities proved valuable as they Tigers shot just 38.5% from the field. Meanwhile, they're defense stifled William Penn and held them to 16.7% shooting from the field.

Dana Stokes and Danielle Smith joined Carballo in double digits with fourteen and ten apiece. Smith also had by far her best night on the boards as she gathered in a career-high 15 rebounds. In addition to her scoring, Carballo also led the team in assists.

The Tigers are back in action on Saturday, December 8 at Iowa Central.
