The 2020-21 season will mark the 8^th for Head Coach Steve Garber on the bench for the MCC Women’s Basketball Program. He has posted an overall record of 74-122 for the Tigers. Coach Garber has also coached at NCAA DI, DII programs, the NAIA level and now the NJCAA level for 23 years after starting his coaching career with four years at the High School level in Illinois for a total 35 years.

The 2017-18 Tigers finished 10-20 and 0-4 in ICCAC play. Sophomore Loralei Siliga showed her dominance on the court, leading the conference in points per game with 17.7 to earn her a 1st Team All-Region nod. The 2016-17 11-18 season was highlighted by Claudia Morente becoming a All-Region point guard selection, averaging 9 points per game and 5 assist as a freshman.. 

Garber led the MCC Women's Basketball program into a new era during the 2015-16 season as the Tigers competed at the NJCAA Division I level for the first time in program history. MCC posted a record of 17-14 with a highlight conference win against No. 4 and previously undefeated Iowa Western Community College, a 59-41 victory on Jan. 14.

In his inaugural season at the helm of the Tigers, Garber carried MCC to an 18-12 record and an 8-8 finish in the ICCAC. Garber led the Tigers to four separate appearances in the NJCAA Division II women's basketball poll, including three straight weeks of receiving votes. The 18 wins in 2013-14 were the most for an MCC team since the 2010-11 season.

Prior to joining MCC, Garber collected over 200 NJCAA career wins, including the 2006 NJCAA Division II National Championship at Illinois Central College. Garber took over the ICC program as a head coach in 2004 after spending seven seasons as an assistant for the Cougars. Garber led ICC to a 2005 runner-up finish at the NJCAA tournament before reaching the pinnacle in 2006, coaching the program to its sixth national championship. Garber also led the 2008 team to a third-place finish at the national tournament. In his nine-year tenure, Garber compiled a record of 230-69. At ICC, Garber produced seven junior college All-Americans. Garber also served as the Region 24 women's basketball chairperson.

Prior to his head coaching career at ICC, Garber coached under two Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Hall of Fame coaches in Chris Weller at the University of Maryland (1988-1990) where the team reached the NCAA Division I Final Four in 1988, and Lorene Ramsey at ICC (1997-2003).

Garber received a Master's of Education degree from Stephen F. Austin State University and a bachelor's degree from Monmouth College where he was a four-year member of the Fighting Scots' men's basketball team.
