Tritons Topple Tigers

NJCAA DII #18 Iowa Central came to town on Wednesday, August 28 to take on the Tigers. While the two teams looked evenly matched for much of the contest, the Tritons were able to take advantage of some sloppy play by the Tigers and claim the 3-1 victory.

The first two sets saw both teams play well in stretches and both teams make too many errors in other portions. The Tritons took the first set 25-19 as they won the battle at the net by hitting .222 while the Tigers only managed to hit .069. But in the second set, the score flipped as the Tigers took the second set 25-19 while holding the Triton hitters to a hitting percentage of just .057.

The third and fourth sets were all Tritons as the Tigers hit .000 in both sets and Iowa Central cruised to 25-20 and 25-17 set wins.

The loss moved the Tigers to 5-3 on the season.

Head Coach Justin Hoskins didn't think his team came prepared to play. "We couldn't put together complete sets today. We played well in all aspects in flashes, but it seemed like if we were playing well in one area, different areas were struggling. We just couldn't get our whole team clicking at once. Credit to Iowa Central for playing a pretty clean match tonight. We just shot ourselves in the foot too many times tonight to beat a quality team."

The Tigers are back in action this weekend for four matches at the Jimmy Johns Invitational at Southeastern Community College.
