The MCC baseball team hosted the Falcons of Indian Hills Community College in ICCAC doubleheaders at Shawn Williams Field on May 5th and 6th. The Tigers were unable to pick up a win against their conference rival and currently sit at 8-32 on the season.
Game One: Lost 19-8
The Tigers played five solid innings before the Falcons poured it on in the sixth inning to walk off with the blowout. Entering the sixth inning the Tigers trailed 8-7 with Walter Hernandez on the mound. The Falcons lineup had no problem making contact with that ball in the sixth, scoring nine runs and added another in the seventh. The Tigers added a run the bottom of the sixth but would not be able to catchup, falling 19-8.
Jose Mieses and Carter Eldridge each went 2-4 at the plate with two RBIs in game one. Brodie Paulson also saw success at the plate, going 2-2 and recorded two stolen bases. Marving Serrano went 1-4 but made the best of his one hit, blasting a two RBI home run over the right field fence early in the game. Walter Hernandez was given the start on the mound in game one, pitching five innings and recorded three strikeouts.
Game Two: Lost 18-1
Game two followed the same path as the Tigers scored early but were unable to cross the plate after the first inning. Up 5-1 in the fifth inning, the Falcons added 13 runs in a single inning behind a two-run homer run and grand slam. The Tigers were limited to only four hits with their 19 at bats. Jeffery Roldan hit his first home run of the season in the first inning and Nick Hagan was the only other Tiger that had solid connection at the plate, recoding the only double of the game.
Game Three: Lost 5-4
Sunday's games saw the Tigers play more competitive, as they celebrated their sophomores for their final home games of their careers. Unfortunately, they dropped game three in a hard fought bck and forth. Tigers scored first, bring in two runs in the first inning but were unable to keep the lead long, surrendering runs in the second and third innings to tie it up. Two scoreless innings later Falcons added three runs for the 5-2 lead. With a run plated in the sixth, PJ Maldonado Rodriguez retired the first three batters in the seventh inning to give the Tigers a chance in the final inning. With bases loaded the Tigers were unable to put the ball in play and dropped a heartbreaker 5-4.
Game Four: Lost 5-0
The Tigers' struggles at the plate continued in the final game of the series, recording only one hit the entire game. The Falcons opened with a quick run in the first inning and plated four in the third as the Falcons ace make quick work of the Tigers lineup, throwing all seven innings, facing 24 batters and recording five strikeouts. Brodie Paulson was given the start on the mound, throwing three innings, faced 14 batters and recorded three strikeouts.
The 8-32 Tigers will now get the week to prepare for the Region XI Tournament as they travel to Centerville, Iowa on Friday. The Tigers hold the third seed and will take on Indian Hills Community College for the ninth time this season in the first round.
