Jeff Metzger

Assistant Men's Basketball coach Jeff Metzger joined the MCC Tiger family Fall 2024.

Metzger has a diverse coaching background spanning from 2017 to the present. He began his career as a head boys freshman coach and varsity assistant at Adam's Central High School in Indiana (2017-2018). He then moved on to Spire Institute in Ohio, where he served as an assistant coach for both the men's post-graduate and boys' high school teams (2018). In 2018-2019, he was an assistant coach for the men's post-graduate team at Scotland Campus in Pennsylvania. At Central Pointe Christian Academy in Florida (2019-2020), he held the dual roles of head coach for the men's post-graduate 2nd team and assistant coach for the 1st team. He continued his coaching journey as an assistant coach for the boys' national high school team at Elevation Prep in Indiana (2021). Returning to Indiana, he became the boys' JV head coach and varsity assistant at Northrop High School (2021-2022). In 2022-2023, he served as the boys' head varsity coach at Southern California Academy.

His most recent coaching experience includes a stint as a men's student assistant coach at the University of Northwestern Ohio (2023) and his current position as a men's assistant coach at MCC.

Throughout his career, Metzger has helped over 60 players that moved on to play at a higher-level including JUCO, NAIA, D3, D2, D1, Overseas Pro, and NBA. Notable NBA players included LaMelo Ball (Charlotte Hornets) Isaiah Jackson (Indiana Pacers) Myron Gardner (Orlando Magic).

He had the opportunity to learn from basketball trainer Dash Lovell in California, a renowned coach who has mentored NBA players such as Paul George, Kevin Durant, and Jaylen Brown.

Metzger has had a lot of influences and support as his time as a coach. He would like to make sure to thank and recognize Chris Chaney, Jermaine Jackson, Sullivan Brown, Blake Kingsley, Travis Nichols, Julius Von Hanzlik, Aaron McClure, Brad Traina, Richard Westerlund, Cody Henson, Anthony Brewer, Rod Chamble, Logan Traylor, Bob Long, Michael Stanley, Ryan Gould, Brandon Durnell, Amondo Hopkins, Terry Lockett, Edniesha Curry, and John Lucas III, Frank Robinson as well as his mom and grandma. "These are just some of the people that have helped make and influence me as the coach I am today."

Metzger came to MCC through connections of a fellow coach and friend, "My friend Lavonte Davis, who was a graduate assistant at Iowa State last year, was initially slated to join the coaching staff here at MCC. However, when he accepted a position at Penn State, he reached out to me and the rest, as they say, is history." 

As an assistant at MCC, Metzger is hoping to bring certain skills to the program, "I like to train guys on how to play and think when they are tired," he commented. "A lot of my individual training consists of reading and reacting and doing drills that focus not only on physical strength but mental strength as well."

Along with his role at MCC as an Assistant Men's Basketball Coach, Metzger is also a residential coordinator in the MCC dorms. He is currently in his second of four years online working towards Sport Marketing degree as his major. He played basketball in High School at Adam's Central High School Freshman-Senior year graduating in 2013 and was on the developmental (JV) in college at Indiana Tech in 2016 before taking a break from college until he resumed.
