Inaugural Iowa-Missouri challenge for volleyball

The three Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) Division I Volleyball schools and three Region XVI Division I Volleyball schools have agreed to partake in the inaugural Iowa-Missouri Challenge.

With scheduling becoming more difficult due to budgets, travel and COVID-19 restrictions, the two regions proposed a scheduling agreement, piggybacking off of the Iowa-Missouri Challenge in men's basketball.

Among the field, Iowa Western and Missouri West Plains both reached the NJCAA National Tournament in the spring, with Indian Hills and Mineral Area both reaching the District Championship.

Iowa Western went on to win the Midwest District final over Mineral Area and ultimately became the Spring 2021 NJCAA National Champions. Missouri West Plains rallied back in a thriller to knock off Indian Hills to earn their spot. After falling in the opening round, the Grizzlies rallied to four-straight wins to a 9th place finish at nationals.

Joining the group will be the event's host, Marshalltown, along with Jefferson.

Marshalltown will host the event scheduled for Friday Oct. 1 and Saturday, Oct. 2. First match begins on Friday at 1 pm when Iowa Western faces off against Jefferson. Each team will play three matches in the two-day round robin event.
