Nate Rodemeyer

Nate Rodemeyer joined the Esports coaching staff Fall 2022. Rodemeyer will be the Assistant Coach.

Rodemeyer spent three years coaching varsity and JV Esports at Williamsburg Jr./Sr. High School from 2019-2022. During his time the team were State Playoff Qualifiers in the following titles: Super Smash Brothers - Fall 20-21, Fall 21-22; Overwatch - Winter 20-21, Winter 21-22; Mario Kart 8 DX - Spring 20-21 and Rainbow Six Siege - Spring 20-21.

The team was consistently ranked in the top three and often #1 in the staff/coach division of Mario Kart 8 DX Time Trials for the Iowa High School Esports Association.

During his time in high school (2004-2008), he played in local Super Smash Brothers, Melee, and Halo 2 tournaments and played a lot of the titles as a casual player. Rodemeyer didn’t play as part of an official school or community team as Esports wasn't widely available at this time.

He graduated from the University of Northern Iowa with a bachelor’s degree in All Social Studies Education (5-12) and a minor in Psychology in 2012. He received his AA degree in Secondary Education from Marshalltown Community College in 2009 and plans to enroll in a master's degree program in Fall 2023.

Rodemeyer is MCC’s Esports Program Management Faculty for the new Esports Program Management AAS degree and diploma.

His wife Laura is a career teacher and current stay-at-home parent to their two children, Elise and Anne. He is a Marshalltown native, MHS, and MCC alumni. He student taught at East Marshall and Newton and spent the last seven years as a 7-12 social studies teacher in Williamsburg. He also served as the President of the Iowa High School Esports Association during the 2021-2022 year, and President-Elect (2020-2021) and helped created the association's bylaws in 2020. His favorite video game series is The Legend of Zelda, but plays just about anything, including a lot of RPGs when he can find the time. He has a SNES Classic in his office, and students are free to stop by and play when he is not meeting with someone else.
