MCC hires Al Driscoll as new Head Women's Soccer Coach

To say that new Marshalltown Community College Women's Soccer Coach Al Driscoll knows soccer is an understatement. Between his coaching and playing career, Driscoll will be a huge asset to Tiger athletics.

Driscoll comes to MCC after serving as Grand View University Men's Assistant Soccer Coach for 15 seasons. A former Grand View player, he was a three-time captain and guided the Vikings to four consecutive District 15 Championships. He was All-District First Team four times, and a two-time Region and All-American selection.

His professional playing career includes stints with NPSL Illinois Thunder, the USISL Indoor League (Permian Basin) TX, USISL Outdoor League with Austin Soccadillos, TX, player for the Des Moines Menace from 1994-1997, and player and coach for the 1998-99 Menace making consecutive trips to the USL Final Four. He was team captain for multiple teams: Permian Basin, TX, Austin Soccadillos, TX, and the Menace. He was also a two-time All-Star selection. Driscoll was a player and coach for the USL Select Atlanta Silverbacks.

He has coached many seasons of youth soccer in Central Iowa. With several State Championships and Region semifinalists as well as finalists, he saw dozens of his players achieve NCAA and NAIA scholarships. Driscoll was instrumental in helping Grand View qualify for the NAIA National Tournament in 2003-2004, 2010-2014, 2016, 2019, and 2021.

"I took the job at MCC because I was looking for a new challenge," commented Driscoll. "While interviewing with the staff, I felt it would give me the opportunity to grow as a coach and administrator."

The MCC Women's Soccer program is in just its second season. When asked what his goals are for the program he said, "Our goals for the next few seasons are to become competitive in every match. We want to make sure all of our players have the chance to move on a 4-year schools if they choose."

When looking at players for the Tigers Driscoll is looking at the whole person. "We are looking for talented soccer players as well as good students and people. Players that we will be proud to say they are members of our school and soccer program."

"We are excited to have Al join us as the next Head Women's Soccer coach for the Tigers," commented MCC Athletic Director, Ryan Flack. "I look forward to working with Al not only as he leads our women's soccer program in just its second year of competition; but overall, as he will be a positive addition to our MCC Tiger Athletic team."

Driscoll will also be working on campus as a member of the MCC admissions staff as an Academic Advising and Recruiting Specialist.
